Purpose of job:

The main purpose of the job is to provide Administrative & Office support to colleagues across our operations in Sierra Leone  ensuring that corporate standards are met..

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: 


All duties and responsibilities will be in line with British Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Child Protection and other overarching corporate policies:



  • Maintain petty cash, post transactions on SAP and keep accurate records
  • Request petty cash replenishment as required
  • Receive cash from Customer Service agents and deposit into bank
  • Provide Customer Service agents with a cash float
  • Raise Purchase Orders (POs) via SAP/Intercompany portal and confirm receipt of goods and services on SAP
  • Scan invoices and send to shared portal, ensuring payments are made on time
  • Follow up Purchase Orders on a daily basis to ensure compliance at month-end
  • Process offline payments, Bank payments and statutory payments
  • Carry out other bank reconciliations
  • Park standard and accrual journals  


Office Support

  • Ensure that there are adequate supplies of stationery in stock
  • Monitor fuel consumption for the office car and the generator by updating the control spreadsheet to ensure that we have an adequate supply to meet demand
  • Assist the Office Manager with records management and administration
  • Support the Office Manager on premises maintenance.
  • Provide support to the Office Manager in updating the contract register and the office inventories



  • Provide support on procurement/logistics as directed
  • Provide support on administrative documentation as directed
  • Provide support to international staff on arrival in Sierra Leone


Skills and Qualifications

  • English at Proficiency Level B2
  • University degree level or equivalent by experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a business support role
  • Knowledge of SAP is desirable but not essential
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-task
