Head of Academic Management - Regional English Training Centre (RETC) / “Boot Camp” Project, Thailand (THA-B7-1575)


The British Council in Thailand is recruiting a Head of Academic Management to join the highly successful Regional English Training Centres project. This is an excellent career development opportunity for senior teachers wishing to move into a more strategic role with more responsibility for overall project management.


The post holder should be qualified with either a Cambridge DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL and have at least 5 years post-qualification teaching and teacher training experience. Experience in teacher training at primary and / or secondary level and line management experience is essential. Experience of training state school teachers outside of a teaching centre is and of working on a similar high-risk project preferred.


The post-holder will be a pro-active self-starter who has a clear vision; can think strategically about the educational direction of the project; review and revise existing systems as appropriate; anticipate problems and plan for solutions and has strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work well with others.


We are looking for a Head of Aacedmic Management who:

  • Has a sound understanding of English language teaching, especially to young learners.
  • Is culturally sensitive, understands the cultural and institutional contexts of teachers from other cultural backgrounds and is quick to adapt Western best practice to a different cultural context.
  • Understands how best to support the professional development of teachers through face-to-face mentoring, online learning and group intensives.
  • Thrives on challenge and are unphased by the need to overcome institutional and logistical obstacles in a different institutional context.
  • Can lead, motivate and line manage a team of lead trainers as part of a dispersed team.

The Head of Academic Management will attend (and help lead parts of) a one-week induction prior to the start of the programme and will manage a group of cluster managers.
