The opportunity:


The British Council Finance team support a global business and therefore operate in the UK and overseas.  A shared services centre is based in Noida, India.


This role sits within the Finance Control part of the organisation, working for the Finance Innovation Programme team.


The Finance Innovation Programme will be benefits led and will focus on how finance operates.  It aims to make finance culturally more innovative. To firmly embed a lean and continuous improvement mind-set, alongside controls, customer focus and commercial decision support.  Finance will simplify, streamline and standardise processes and controls.  Improvements to commercial insight will be made through upskilling our workforce and better leveraging our data.  This will allow us to be better business partners.


The successful applicant will work closely with the Global Process Owner on the design and delivery of changes to the global projects and contracts processes as part of the Finance Innovation Programme.  They will contribute to the delivery of the process workstream outputs that form a significant part of the overall outputs of the Finance Innovation Programme.  Their work will enable the achievement of important benefits and improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of the global finance team. This includes the effective management of the deliverables from design through delivery, implementation and transition to business as usual (BAU).  The role holder must have well developed communication and influencing skills as they will be required to work with the wider finance and operational communities across the globe to ensure that outputs are fit for purpose, meet the requirements of the wider organisation and are delivered to time, quality and cost.


The role holder will also support BAU process changes and work across the GPO scope as required.


Main opportunities / challenges for this role:


This is a new role within the Global Process Owner teams, providing the full range of process design and delivery activities as part of the Finance Innovation Programme.


The main opportunity and challenge for the team is to simplify, streamline and standardise global finance processes and controls that help to achieve the benefits of the Finance Innovation Programme.  This is both an opportunity and challenge to standardise and reduce the excessive number of processes currently being operated.


The successful individual will need to develop fit for purpose, lean processes and gain buy in from numerous stakeholders and process users, ensuring end to end improvements are achieved.


What we require of the successful candidate: 

  • Qualified accountant with post qualification experience or equivalent.
  • Experience of financial process improvement, process mapping, developing RACI charts and KPIs, controls & risks.
  • Analytical skills/experience.
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Operating in international and multi-cultural organisations.
  • Flexibility, independence and initiative to perform successfully in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience of managing a diverse group of stakeholders in multiple locations.
  • Experience of Microsoft tools including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project and SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication skills – experience of conveying complex information in an easy to understand way.
  • Experience of working with senior managers and stakeholder engagement.
