The opportunity:

 

The British Council Finance team support a global business and therefore operate in the UK and overseas.  A shared services centre is based in Noida, India.

 

This role sits within the Global Process Owner team, working for the Finance Innovation Programme.

 

The Finance function is structured along functional lines with the aim of embedding the ‘three lines of defence’ model at its heart, clearly separating the financial control and governance (first line) and risk and assurance (second line) functions,  and linking into internal audit (third line), ensuring the integrity of our results and the strength of our controls. The Global Process Owner works alongside the Finance function ensuring integrity of finance processes.

 

The T&E Global Process Owner will work closely with the Global Integrated Travel Programme Team who are currently planning a region by region rollout of Concur Expense to replace our existing SAP Travel & Expense system, together with a significant extension of the use of corporate credit cards for both travel and other business expenses. The Programme undertakes establishing regional contracts with Travel Management Companies to provide our corporate travel services.

 

The role holder will also work alongside the Global Integrated Travel Programme and HR policy teams and crucially will provide the bridge between global finance, operational management, HR and procurement. Travel & Expenses processes are determined by SAP Concur. The role holder will need to assess how these processes are best applied to meet business needs and maintain appropriate financial controls.

 

Main opportunities / challenges for this role:

 

This is a new role within the Global Process Owner team, providing the full range of process design and delivery activities as part of the Finance Innovation Programme. 

 

The main opportunity and challenge for the team is to simplify, streamline and standardise global finance processes and controls that help to achieve the benefits of the Finance Innovation Programme.  This is both an opportunity and challenge to standardise and reduce the excessive number of processes currently being operated and maintain appropriate controls at the same time.

 

The role will develop fit for purpose, lean processes and gain buy in from numerous stakeholders and process users, ensuring end to end improvements are achieved.

 

What we require of the successful candidate:

  • Recognised International Accounting or Finance qualification or equivalent with significant experience within a controls and process environment within an international organisation
  • Experience of financial process improvement, process mapping, developing RACI charts and KPIs, controls & risks.
  • Analytical skills/experience.
  • Operating in international and multi-cultural organisations.
  • Flexibility, independence and initiative to perform successfully in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience of managing a diverse group of stakeholders in multiple locations.
  • Experience of Microsoft tools including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project and SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication skills – experience of conveying complex information in an easy to understand way.
  • Experience of working with senior managers and stakeholder engagement
