The Opportunity: 

We are recruiting for  an Assistant Consultant to join the Language Assistants team, within Education & Society in the Edinburgh  office. 

The Assistant Consultant is responsible for supporting the management and delivery of a project or internal service/function. You will gain a track record in developing and delivering projects or paid/internal services and will work within and across diverse teams. 

You'll develop essential level knowledge and skills in a sector, Monitoring & Evaluation, contract management, business analysis and/or capability building.   

The Language Assistants programme delivers against a series of bilateral inter-governmental agreements between the UK and Education Ministries in 14 other countries worldwide.   The programme aims to improve modern foreign language skills and intercultural awareness in participating countries through the direct interaction of learners and educators with native speakers.     

The programme supports the recruitment and placement of Modern Language Assistants in schools in the UK. Modern Language Assistants are native speakers of French, Spanish, German, Italian and Mandarin, who assist with the teaching of their native language in host primary schools, secondary schools, further education and higher education institutions.  

The main areas of focus, but are not limited to, are: 

Business Management and Delivery -  Undertakes administrative tasks for a project or internal service/function.

People Management -  Ability to work within a diverse team working across different offices. 

Commercial Business management - Supports the Consultant in drafting performance reports (including results and impact, risks etc). 

Stakeholder Management - Supports broader team in managing the logistics of client/partner meetings and project boards. 

What we require of the successful candidate: 

Competence at B2 level ( Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in either French, German, Italian, Spanish or Mandarin. Experience of managing relationships effectively with a variety of stakeholders.  

Experience of having lived, worked or studied abroad and/or knowledge of other cultures      

Experience of delivering excellent customer service through a range of media and platforms to diverse audiences.

Strong communication and presentation skills.  

Proficient I.T. skills.
