The British Council is looking for a Commercial & Admin Support Assistant to join the English & Exams team.

English and Examinations

Through our English and Exams work we aim to achieve more widespread and better quality teaching and learning of English worldwide and offer access to professional qualifications.  Working with policymakers, government ministers, teachers and learners across the world we help millions of people to access English by supporting the teaching and learning of English in public education systems, and through self-access materials and courses. We teach learners and teachers of English face-to-face in dedicated teaching centres and online through a range of courses. Every year three million people take international exams with help from the British Council, gaining qualifications that can open doors at leading academic institutions and improve employment prospects.  

The Opportunity


We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational skills to provide commercial, analytical and logistical support across the distribution team to ensure the commercial manager, sector leads, account managers and business pursuit roles fulfil their roles effectively.


Reporting to the Commercial & Ad min Support Officer you will be required to use, monitor and maintain appropriate knowledge management, CRM systems, web pages ensuring data is accurate and up to date.  You will also provide occasional marcomms and logistical support with awarding body related events such as meetings and conferences when needed.




Responsibilities will include the following:


  • To carry out routine monitoring and standard reporting on commercial data involving sales, profitability and opportunities using an agreed set of corporate processes, techniques and report templates. 
  • As required, uses a range of standard processes and techniques to carry out routine research and surveys and analyses actual or customer data and or trends – e.g. annual awarding body survey, customer segmentation, demographic profiling, competitor tracking and measurement of market share.
  • Supporting the development of high quality bids, tenders and proposals by preparing or collating written content/diagrams/financial data/case studies/project plans according to agreed corporate templates, processes and deadlines. 
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and data about the BC’s dealings and contact with a range of specific partners or clients (existing or prospective), in order to support effective and coordinated account management across the organisation.
  • In accordance with an agreed account management plans, coordinates and organises contact between key clients and the BC – e.g. meetings, conference slots, sending targeted marketing or communications thought leadership materials etc.
  • Provides logistical support including arranging meetings, greeting guests and arranging catering and technical aspects related to meetings with awarding bodies
  • Collects and collate information from the exams network, global systems, central data sources and tools for analysis and to inform decision making
  • Arrange and run regular webinars for our key awarding bodies when
  • Take part in promotional events and represent the BC and the distribution global exams offer.
