Location: Barcelona/ Spain Contract: Indefinite Payband: 8/ Grade E
    The British Council is the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust. We work with over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society. Each year we reach over 20 million people face-to-face and more than 500 million people online, via broadcasts and publications. 

  The Role Purpose is to:
  •   To provide leadership for the British Council’s operation in Barcelona and Palma, in line with national and local strategy.
  • To ensure achievement of financial impact and quality targets in line with country priorities and plans.
  • To work as part of the National Leadership Team for Teaching, supporting the Spain teaching business. s 
Main opportunities/challenges for the Role:

  This is a challenging and exciting role which provides both opportunities and significant challenges around the development of the business in both Barcelona and Palma.
 The role offers an opportunity to work with very positive, resilient and dynamic teams, who are committed to supporting the transformation of the operation and its future sustainability.

 The Barcelona Teaching Centre has faced business challenges for the last few years with a decline in volume and income and has been in deficit; changes to the operating model have been implemented as a result. In order to build a sustainable business work needs to be done on:
  •  income generation and growth
  • improving margins through further transformation of the business model
  • ensure a sustainable cost base is in place through continued adaptation of the operating model, which will probably include a review of the premises

  The role is open to both internal and external candidates and located in Barcelona, Spain.. Applicants must be eligible to work in EU. A transfer/ baggage allowance may be considered on a case by case basis at discretion of Spain management for candidates applying from outside Spain.
