About the Role


Reporting to the Business Director English, the Regional English Director is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the English business across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa to ensure the achievement of financial, impact and quality targets, in accordance with country, regional and SBU priorities and plans.


Providing strategic advice and consultancy for our English business, this is a highly commercial and influential senior leadership role where you will add value and make a difference through ensuring that English delivers to the regional strategy through securing  and growing the impact of the English language.


Your reach will be truly global, operating across a global matrix structure the British Council work with over 100 countries worldwide. 


As such, you will have significant interaction with a wide range of colleagues across the British Council’s global/regional network including external stakeholders and international partners.  You will also interact with marketing teams to maximise profitability through insight and analytics as well as with geographical dispersed teams.


About You

You will have experience of a strategic leadership role within an organisation of similar scale and complexity. From the private or not for profit sectors you will have led a globally dispersed function within a matrix structure and possess strong international experience including evidence of developing large education proposal to MoEs, donors and stakeholders.


Experience of working with education systems/skills development coupled with an understanding of business modelling and programme management is desirable but not essential.  A determined and inspirational leader with excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills, you will play a vital role in setting the vision, direction and annual business plans to ensure commercial objectives are realised.
