 EU North Cluster Exams Director

The English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit (E&E) is one of three strategic business units in the British Council (the others being Arts and Education & Society) all of which have the remit to build trust for the people of the UK by building relationships through aspects of our language and culture. 

The Examinations business makes a significant contribution to British Council financial sustainability, and as such, it is essential that the business evolves in order to maintain its position in a fast-changing operating context. There is a need to standardise and automate activities across the globe to deliver efficiencies, and there is also a requirement to develop new digital products and services to meet changing customer demands and competitive pressures. In a cost and resource-constrained environment, balancing the on-going requirements and allocation of funds will be critical, as will the integration and planning of the implementation of the different changes across a global network of 110+ countries charged with the on-going delivery of impact and income whilst changing key elements of the supporting operational platform.

The purpose of this role is to set the three year Exams strategy and deliver income and surplus for the country/cluster of designated countries aligning with Global and Regional Exams strategy.  The lead is ultimately responsible for overall team management, team and business performance, customer experience and reputation with a primary focus on leading business development to maximise market opportunities and create value, working collaboratively with other BC colleagues on shared interests/ mutual opportunities, ensure compliance with British Council and awarding body standards, and add value to customer and partner relationships. 

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • Managing a large-scale commercial business across a number of different countries/geographies
  • Operating in international and multi-cultural organisations
  • Building relationships at all levels of the organisation
  • Responsible for cluster performance, customer experience and reputation
  • Initiative to perform successfully in a rapidly changing environment 

This role will report to Director Exams Europe.

** Candidates located in North Cluster Europe will remain in their home location. For those candidates outside of the North Cluster, the role location will be Bratislava. The candidates are expected to have the right to live and work in Europe. Local contract conditions will apply and the position is not globally mobile **

**A successful candidate relocating from outside Europe to Bratislava will be eligible for a mobility package which includes flights and transfer compensation, which will be 7% of annual net base salary for single or partnered and 10% for families**
