The British Council is looking for suitably qualified and experienced professionals to join our team of UKVI IELTS Examiners, based in:

 

Leeds

Glasgow

Manchester

Cardiff

London

Reporting to the UKVI Operational Exams Team your role will be to mark the IELTS Speaking Tests whilst maintaining the standards required by Cambridge English Language Assessment and the British Council.


To be considered you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree.
  • A recognised qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or equivalent as part of a recognised university award course.
  • Sufficient relevant EFL/ESOL teaching experience. The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).

Additional requirements of the job:

 

  • Flexibility in working hours is expected in order to meet operational needs.
  • UKVI IELTS Tests are mainly conducted on weekends with occasional work during weekdays.
  • UKVI IELTS Examiners will indicate their availability three months in advance and will be offered work based on their availability, operational requirements and the fair and even distribution of work amongst UKVI IELTS Examiners. This does not guarantee you will be offered work. If we are able to offer you work, this will depend on the operational needs. You are free to accept or decline work offered.
  • UKVI IELTS Examiners are required to maintain certification for the duration of the contact. You must attend and complete the training and standardisation workshops led by authorised Examiner Trainers. The applicant will be required to meet the requirements as listed in this document and the job advertisement. Performance will be monitored regularly against the current performance monitoring system.
  •  UKVI IELTS Examiners will be required to sign the IELTS Confidentiality Undertaking and sign and abide by the IELTS Code of Practice for Life Skills Examiners
  •  All UKVI IELTS Examiners will be subject to a security and reference check.
