ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM


The English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit (E&E) is one of three strategic business units in the British Council (the others being Arts and Education & Society) all of which have the remit to build trust for the people of the UK by building relationships through aspects of our language and culture. E&E achieves this by enabling people across the world to access the life-changing education and work opportunities that are created by learning English or gaining valuable UK qualifications. Promoting the English language also provides a medium for communication, helping break down barriers of misunderstanding or mistrust between cultures. The British Council’s vision for English & Examinations is to be the world authority in high quality English language teaching, learning and assessment, as well as the International distributor of choice for UK professional and school qualifications.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY


You will develop and deliver the 2-year market led, integrated cross portfolio Business Development & Sales strategy aligned with Global/Regional Exams strategy working with other British Council colleagues to leverage opportunities and create value for UK Qualifications in Australia & New Zealand.

You will be responsible for the overall management of business development and service delivery of our Examinations Services business in Australia and New Zealand. Principal areas of responsibility include business pursuit, financial management, stakeholder management, people management, compliance with quality and security standards and exams-related customer service.


WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT IT


You will be deeply involved in developing country strategies that focus on sustainable growth of the exams business with an entrepreneurial, innovative approach.

As the key leader for exams management and growth, you will provide operational leadership and manage the delivery of professional, university and schools exams in Australia, ensuring all relevant national and corporate standards are met.

You will work closely with our IELTS testing partners in New Zealand and worldwide, and act on the opportunities discovered by you so to grow our exams business in New Zealand.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To qualify for this role, you will need:

1. Language requirement is a must for this role: you must possess excellent written and spoken communication skills in English;

2. You are educated to degree level or above;

3. You are a proven business developer, preferrably in education or examination areas;

4. You are always proactive in looking for ways to improve/streamline the current practices;

5. You are an excellent communicator who can effectively develop relationships and creating shared-purpose with with our commercial clients and key stakeholders;

6. You are preferably knowledgeable in UK qualifications, or have the capacity to develop this; and you are insightful in terms of education sector in Australia+/New Zealand;

7. You are experienced in problem solving-based sales experience and project management.
