Details

Please note that in December 2020, the British Council will relocate its new global headquarters to: International Quarter, Stratford, London E20.

About us:

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.  We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

We work in over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society.  Each year we reach over 20 million people face to face and more than 500 million people online, via broadcasts and publications.

Through our work in Education and Society we provide opportunities for people to broaden their horizons and build sustainable futures. Our work in Education aims to raise the quality of education globally and connect people across the globe to share perspectives, best practice and ultimately improve learning outcomes. Our work contributes to global education policy, supports international mobility and collaboration and promotes the UK as a world leader in education and research. Our Society programmes enable individuals, communities and governments to work together to make positive transformation where it matters - from strengthening civil society, to widening access to justice and promoting the rule of law. Our work also includes social enterprise, girls’ and women’s inclusion, youth and sport. The aim is to help build stronger, safer and more inclusive societies.

The opportunity:

We have new opportunities available for experienced individuals to join the Contract Management team for a 2-year fixed term contract.  Working with colleagues across three strategic business units globally (Education & Society, Arts and English & Exams), the successful candidate will support the Head of Contract Management and Principal Contract Consultant in providing Contract Management advice, expertise and capacity building in order to support the pursuit, negotiation and delivery of business opportunities that maximise benefits to the British Council and minimise risks.  This will be undertaken in accordance with British Council policies and agreed procedures; whilst also developing the organisations’ capability in contract management and procurement.

The Senior Contract Consultant will be responsible for managing a large number of programme and project contract enquiries.  The successful individual will be required to provide technical expertise in contract management, procurement and capability building.

It is important to note that the Contract Management services within the British Council do not incorporate the management of suppliers. Contract Management services include the following activities such as: document/contract review, contract drafting, negotiation, facilitation of contract signature and dispute resolution in addition to supporting the tendering process prior to contracting.

What we require of the successful candidate:

  • Experience of providing effective internal and external consultancy services to internal, external stakeholders and customers in the area of contract management
  • Extensive experience of contracting, (including but not limited to drafting, negotiation and review of contractual documentation), contract management and related legal areas, such as indemnities, liability.
  • Understanding of UK contract law and statutory requirements and how these are applied in a programme / project management context.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU procurement legislation
  • Experience of the design, management and evaluation of EC tenders for the supply of goods and services in ways that deliver value for money
  • Experience of monitoring the performance of service providers delivering a service across a department or portfolio of work.
  • Experience of project management

This is an excellent opportunity to further progress within an ‘in-house’ Contract Management department.

Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary and excellent pension contributions, the British Council offers:

  • 32 days annual leave
  • £3,300 London Market Allowance for London based staff
  • Interest free travel season ticket loan
  • Employee Assistance Programme
