Please note that in Autumn 2020, the British Council will relocate its new global headquarters to: International Quarter, Stratford, London E20.

About us:

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.  We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

Our commercial businesses face increased competition, and there are additional risks arising to our financial sustainability from the impact of Brexit and changes to the amount of funding we receive from Government.

We therefore need to ensure that the finance function is operating as sustainably as possible, enabling us to support the next Comprehensive Spending Review and our new Strategy (Strategy 25).

Our Finance Innovation programme started in July 2019 and aims to re-balance work so that inefficient and non-value add tasks are removed and all transactional work occurs in shared service centres.

The programme focuses on understanding how we operate, our activities and processes, via “discovery” phases.  Then streamlining and standardising these on an end-to-end basis, rather than as silo-ed point solutions.  Process changes are rolled-out via pilot trial and region rather than as a global big-bang approach.

The opportunity:

Our organisation is internationally recognised as a global leader in cultural relations and a world authority in the teaching and learning of English.

In the key role of Director of Finance Transformation, you will have a real opportunity to enhance this success.

You’ll achieve this through your significant transformational leadership capability, partnering with the senior finance leadership team and delivering multiple finance transformation objectives.

In doing so, you’ll be enabling the identification and delivery of savings, whilst improving service for customers, engaging employees and improving controls and reporting.

To do this, you’ll need to deliver the Finance Innovation Programme (FIP) and other high value solutions, helping our business solve complex problems and implementing change at all levels with a focus on benefits delivery.

This will require your ability to deliver effective programme governance, stakeholder engagement, management of resource and oversight of all designs, plans and implementations.

In summary, your transformational work as a senior member of our global finance function will directly help our business to continually enhance it’s brilliant and unique cultural relations and educational work.

About You:

Key skills and experience we are seeking include:

·         Strong understanding of finance transformation with demonstrable ability to identify changes required in processes, people, systems and / or data and impact on finance function

·         Finance and risk management and reporting: comfortable with interpreting and presenting financial and risk reports across a portfolio of different projects
