Vacancy Description
Location : Kandy Job type : Teacher - Coordinator Duration : 2 or 3 years Number of posts : 1
The British Council enjoys considerable prestige in Sri Lanka. The Teaching Centres in Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and a partner centre in Matara, represent one of the largest teaching operations in the British Council network, with over 6,000 students registered on courses each term. In addition to the Teaching Centres, there is a very successful exams business and our libraries boast over 25,000 members.

Our centres in Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna combine libraries, Exams centres as well as the English teaching activity. The Colombo centre also has the support services staff and Arts, Education and Society teams. These are centrally located and receive large numbers of visitors. British Council Jaffna is located in recently refurbished premises, the Kandy centre has gone through a refurbishment project and the Colombo centre is nearing the end of an extensive building project. British Council Sri Lanka is investing in providing excellent premises which are suited to best serve our customers.

The Teaching Centre in Kandy, where the post is based, has up to 1200 students registered for courses each term. 70 per cent of students are Young Learners aged 6-17 (Primary and Secondary).  Young Learner numbers are growing in all our Centres. The Colombo Centre offers Early Years courses for children aged 4-5 and this is an offer we are planning to roll out in Kandy.

Student numbers of Young Learners aged 6-15 remain stable throughout the year, with re-registration rates at about 90%. Parents value the communicative methodology and the quality of the teaching provided. Adult and Upper Secondary (16-17) student numbers increase significantly between October and March, when a lot of teenagers are forced to take a break after their O and A-level exams, and then drop off again between April and September.

Away from work, Sri Lanka provides teachers with a comfortable lifestyle and the chance to explore one of the world’s most beautiful island destinations.

Internal candidates need to inform their current line manager and recruiting manager.

Closing date for applications would be 08th September 2019
